neomeruru: (shut your bitch mouth)
[livejournal.com profile] cathenian mentioned this on Twitter the other day, and it reminded me that I had meant to make a post on it. I'm guessing that only a few people have seen this so far, as I'd imagine that the Inception and Lil Wayne fandoms have a very slim overlap.

Nonetheless, this video has completely captured my attention:

I just. I can't! LIL WAYNE WHAT. WHAT. WHAT ARE YOU DOING.

WHATEVER YOU ARE DOING, DO MORE OF IT

There are so many things about this video and song that I enjoy. The Inception shoutouts are awesome, of course, but even more overwhelmingly I am really loving the sardonic second reading. I mean, this video must completely tongue-in-cheek, and either Lil Wayne or his director is a genius for it. It knows its ridiculous. The discrepancy between the traditionally macho, self-importance of rap and the complete refusal to take itself seriously is delicious to me. And I'm such a sucker for when people fuck their haters with rhythm and style.

Also, further proof that a black suit can make anyone look good. Lil Wayne, what the fuck, I would climb him like a tree.

Eeeeee so, you guys, I am slow on the uptake on this one, but I have a completely unironic love for the My Little Pony reboot, particularly Pride Pony (dA link), but this makes it better:

And when I say unironic, I mean completely unironic. I don't even like it because I'm nostalgic; I didn't watch the show before, and I didn't collect the dolls. I have a Scottish pony that my friend gave me when we were kids, but that's it. I never even went through that really weird horses-as-a-symbol-of-burgeoning-sexuality phase, either. But, I mean, look at it, it's fucking adorable. It's bright and quick and the ponies are really awesome and spunky and full of personality. It makes me happy when I watch it.

And also I just love mash-ups, you guys. I love them so much. I look forward to the Best of Bootie compilations every year. Give me any mashup, particularly one I can dance to, and we are set.

Because I am easily amused, and because [livejournal.com profile] butterflythread, [livejournal.com profile] matchsticks_p, and [livejournal.com profile] theholysea, are enablers, I have started drawing an Inception/Reboot crossover. It already has a title and everything. Arthur looks like Megaman, Eames looks like Captain Planet, Ariadne looks like Speed Racer... but somewhere along the line, I learned how to draw faces without photo reference, so that's cool. The lineart is taking a surprisingly long time to finish, despite being in the simple Reboot style.

I also made up a little filk to sing to myself while I was working on the pic, to the tune of Cee-Lo Green's 'Fuck You':

So I'm gettin' kinda bored with the 'verse I love, and I'm like: AU (oo oo ooo);
I guess the crazy dream heist wasn't enough, I'm like: AU, guess I'll read you too.
I said, if Arthur's a pirate, I know I'd still buy it,
(Hah! Is that so wrong? (is that so wrong?))
And I love the dapper gent, but Eames could be a vet,
So I'm like, AU (oo ooo ooooo)

I think there are like a billion verses someone could write for this, so go nuts in the comments if you can think of any. There are as many possibilities as catboy!Arthur has lives, yeah.

Happy un-Valentines Day, friendslist! Like I've said, Husband and I don't celebrate the holiday ourselves (thank god), but you can be my Valentine anyway. My heart is big enough for... oh, at least five more people. To audition for a spot in my heart, please fill out the application form and send with a self-addressed stamped envelope and cheque or money order to...

REGARDLESS, please have my favorite love song in the world. It is my favorite because it is about how people are terrible and enmeshing your life with someone is like a horror and a half, but it's okay because that's just life, and you can be committeed to doing it together, all the way to the end. I wanted to walk down the aisle to this song, but, well. I was loudly outvoted.

And because I love you, have an MP3 of the song too. Trial purposes only, delete after 24 hours, etc etc.

From the entrance to the exit... is longer than it looks from where we stand.
I want to say I'm sorry for stuff I haven't done yet,
Things will shortly get completely out of hand.
I can feel it in the rotten air tonight,
In the tips of my fingers, in the skin on my face;
In the weak last gasp of the evening's dying light,
In the way those eyes I've always loved illuminate this place
Like a trashcan fire in a prison cell, like the searchlights in the parking lots of hell,
I will walk down to the end with you
If you will come all the way down with me.

I am going to listen to this song for a while on repeat, and hope that its delightfully subversive charm will wash away the memory of the eternal neckbeards in our guild who were trying to make themselves feel better by insinuating that women are a waste of time and money. Thanks for the casual misogyny, guys! Hope that cognitive dissonance is working for you. It didn't work for Husband, so he settled down a girl who plays video games, balances the bank accounts, and fucks like a goddess. But, you know, whatever works for you!

If you're like me, and got started young on queer theory with a deep and libido-stirring early love of yaoi, then you might like this safe-sex commercial/ad/music video from Japan:

Little Taiko Boy リトル太鼓ボーイ from All Out Attack on Vimeo.

Seeing as how my trajectory went yaoi --> androgynous Japanese men --> faghaggery --> queer theory with a healthy kink for safe sex, this is right up my alley. And I originally wrote that as right up my ally, AND WHO WOULDN'T LIKE TO BE RIGHT UP THEIR ALLY, AMIRITE?

Anyway though, nice try Japan, that was pretty cool. Safe sex is also important for heterosexual coup-- oh! Right! I forgot. Hentai in every bookstore, but it's still not cool to talk to women about sex. Your gay samurai is showing, Japan!

ALSO ALSO ALSO FOR ADDED SQUEE, I would like to direct your attention to [livejournal.com profile] pen_pistola, who dedicated her latest fic One Eames A-Leaping to me in the hopes of making me feel better, which is positively lovely darling, and most definitely made my day. I have been battling this quantum supervirus back all day, and I think I'm finally winning? So thank you [livejournal.com profile] pen_pistola, for being amazing and so thoughtful, and a Merry Christmas to you as well. :)

you're welcome

Today's queer squee brought to you by my new boyfriend Blake McGrath and his music video:

Yes, that IS an overtly gay remix of Frankie Goes to Hollywood -- as if 'Relax' wasn't enough of a dancehall anthem to begin with.

Yes, that IS everything that is right and fabulous about queer camp, rolled into one devastatingly sexy and artistic video.

You're welcome.

Husband picked me up from the train yesterday, nearly giddy because he'd gotten his hands on the new Linkin Park CD.

Now, I've never really liked Linkin Park. Chester's voice annoys the hell out of me, even when the rest of the song sounds great. Even so, I've been flirting with the singles from their latest CD, A Thousand Suns. This CD, though, has captivated me.

It's like this CD takes everything I thought about Linkin Park and turns it over on its head. The songs are musically very tight and well-crafted, Mike Shinoda's lyrical stylings are a little more on the forefront, and Chester seems to have taken an actual goddamn singing class somewhere because, hot damn, that boy can make noise. Except for one song, he doesn't do that stupid growling noise when he sings anymore.

The album feels much more mature and worldly than their previous sound. Mike goes a little rasta at some point, and Chester not only opens those vocal cords to sing (sing! with lyrics!) but his spoken word feels a little more calypso. The sounds are also different, in When They Come for Me they bring in the quintessential drumline you see more often in bhangra music:

Seeing how I have ALWAYS been a sucker for that drum beat, it only makes me want to draw. Now, what to draw, though? Original characters sexy!dancing, or fall back on Eames/Arthur escape heist?
