This post is a total GIP. Thanks for the awesome icons, [livejournal.com profile] eamesie! I have wanted a Tony/Steve icon for a while, and I'll be doing some posting for the upcoming Cap/Iron Man Big Bang this month, so it was much needed. <3

This is how I feel today! Embed:

Yesterday I finished my picture for said Big Bang, so that's cool! I'm pretty happy with it! I drew not one, but two sets of Iron Man armour, which was kind of intimidating, but hey! Now I know how to draw and colour armour! :D

Today I am going to try to do some speedpainting, go find Harvest Moon for the GBA, eat fish, and bake a carrot cake in a castle-shaped pan. And it's already 2PM, whoops. Better get on that.

I just got an AO3 account, where my one lonely fanfic is currently sitting, but I hear they'll be hosting images soon, which should provide avenues for storing transformative work in the form of fanart just by itself, so I'm pretty pleased with that. Right now it's just a place to collect bookmarks, though. ^^;

Finding out that Emma Thompson dated Hugh Laurie in college, then went on to marry Kenneth Branagh, who himself after their divorce dated Helena Bonham Carter, is kind of like real-life fanfiction for me.

Like how in Harry Potter fandom where I prefer to read about the Marauder era, or FFX fandom where I prefer Team Absent Father Figure, or my years-long serious relationship with the Turks from FFVII... basically, it's like a real-life version of how I fixate on obscure older characters that no one else really cares about! :O

Relatedly, I now have enough data points to definitively say that I Have A Type, and that type is criminals in love. It all makes sense now.

Totally unrelated at all, last night I had a dream in which Allison Janney was my love interest. Phoooar, brain, thank you for that.

I wrote a thing on [livejournal.com profile] butterflythread's Opposite Day Meme! It's something that I've had kicking around in my head for a while, but never actually sat down to put into words. I like writing! I also super hate it, ugh, it's so stressful, how do you writers do it?!

I haven't posted anything personal in a while, so sorry for that! The truth is, I haven't been doing anything interesting lately. I've been spending my time doing art for [livejournal.com profile] ladysisyphus's upcoming Shousetsu Bang Bang -- I'm really psyched for one of them, as my friends have no doubt realized as I am SHOWING IT OFF TO EVERYONE. And I've also started one for [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis, so come August 22 I'll have three pictures to post, hurrah.

I've also picked up an illustration for the [livejournal.com profile] cap_ironman Big Bang, which I have dubbed SUDDENLY PARENTS. No inroads on that one yet. And then of course my Big Bang with [livejournal.com profile] sho_no_tabi and also I signed up to claim a story as well, because I apparently just cant get enough.

In between arts I have been completely failing to go out and enjoy the summer -- I have this thing where, during the summer, I am perfectly happy to sit inside in the dark, and by the time October rolls around I am SUPER UPSET WITH MYSELF that I wasted the summer away, even though it was a conscious choice at the time. Though, this week I did get up to Cultus Lake (hi Cathy!) with my family. It was the first time I'd been to the lake, and the water was great except for that everyone got swimmer's itch, and I saw a bald eagle catch a fish and take it up to its nest and that was pretty amazing, and I ate a lot of marshmallows and generally had a good time.

Confidential to people who gave me their addresses for postcards: the images are at the printers and I should be getting those out shortly! Thanks for your patience. <3

All pairings/genres are welcome, 15,000 word mimimum for fics.

FAQ | Prompt Post

Sign Ups: Author | Artist | Track Two | Beta

Sign-ups for Round 2 of the Inception Big Bang have started! Well, we made it to our second year, folks!

I am super happy to say that I will be signing up in Track 2, with my bestie homegirl:

[livejournal.com profile] sho_no_tabi

... who I hope you remember from my incessant flailing over Dig, Lazarus Dig, Glitch, Plenty of Good Thieves, and many, many more. I have basically just been flailing since she offered to collab, oh my god. So I am A LITTLE LIKE THIS ABOUT THIS BIG BANG:

(Seriously, I mean that literally. I got her message and went out into the living room and made that exact dance at Husband. I am a little invested.)

I might sign up as a general artist as well -- Tabi is already hardcore into her story, so I'll have my hands on the draft well before Artist Claims in December, resulting in a lot of time to work on a second Big Bang. I'm not sure yet! If more writers make it to claims than artists, I might throw my lot in there too.

happy inceptioniversary!

Dear fandom,

It's been a year, and you still manage to make me do this:

And there's still a surprising amount of this:

But, more importantly, you still make me feel like this almost every day:

Thanks for the crazy, amazing year, you guys. I can't even begin to describe how the past year has been incredible, but it would include a lot of gushing about all the awesome people I've met, the creative and supportive community we've created, and how thankful I am that it's given me the motivation to keep drawing and improving.

Happy birthday, Inception fandom! I hope to see you all, and maybe even a few more people, in another year's time. :)

This question is totally serious. It is totally legit research. It may or may not become a picture sometime in the near future. Possibly for a certain date which is coming up very, very quickly for an anniversary we all share.

overcoming boredom

I didn't feel like working on art last night, so I ended up overhauling my journal tagging system. Now I have fancy categories and subcategories and it is pleasing my inner... my inner... whatever part of me finds organization cathartic. It's deep in there, somewhere, hidden under the short attention span and fervent enthusiasm.

The problem is, I didn't do any art while I was at home where I could, and now I'm bored at work where I can't draw but where I totally could have jiggered my tagging system. And I am bored, so bored, oh my god, my boredom knows no bounds. I think the boredom is internet-wide too, because no one seems to be doing anything interesting at all.

Twitter seems to be so much better for capturing these 'blah' sort of emotions without having to go into it. The very process of journalling seems to encourage you to work through emotions, not just express them. I'll pump up the rest of this entry with some cool things!

The Canucks won the first game of the Stanley Cup playoffs last night against the Bruins. It was an interesting game despite being scoreless for the majority of it, when that magnificent bastard Torres scored a goal with nineteen seconds left. The sound I made while completely alone in my house was, quite frankly, kind of embarrassing.

I've just met a really good author who's new to the Inception fandom and doesn't know a lot of people yet, [livejournal.com profile] black_betty_26. She's been super nice and is just a startlingly fantastic writer to boot -- kind of halfway between [livejournal.com profile] knowmydark and [livejournal.com profile] jeannedecarnin. The first thing I read of hers was I Light Up When You Call My Name, otherwise known as the fever!sex one, back when it was an anon fill on the kinkmeme -- oh goodness, is it ever just scorchingly hot. And then today she posted Ne Me Quitte Pas, a historical pining-for-the-one-who-went-to-war AU that is just so poignant and gripping.

There's also [livejournal.com profile] ae_match which I'm sure many of you know about by now, as [livejournal.com profile] foxxcub has been doing a stellar job of pimping all over the place. It's a summer-long, Arthur/Eames, team-based, quantity-encouraging challenge pitting Team Romance against Team Angst in a race to produce the most fanworks. I have a lot of my plate this summer, including some actual paid stuff that I can't fall behind on, so I'm still on the fence about participating. If I did, I would be on Team Angst? I think?

Alright, I effectively killed like an hour writing this entry. Kickass.

boosting the signal: rarepair fest

[livejournal.com profile] forgerness will be hosting a "rarepair and more" fest starting on June 5, and I'm already working on my contribution! People who were hanging out with me on livestream today (hi guys!) got a sneak peek, but now the lid's back on until the fest. All I can say is that lovers of Eames/Mal and dubcon will be happy. :D

It's no secret that I am poly-shipperous when it comes to these parts (as long as cocks are going into things, I don't much care who's involved -- just like real life!), so I am super excited to hear from writers I don't know and read pairings that I don't usually see. I'm especially hoping to see some more Arthur/Mal, and of course my bro-tastic second love, Eames/Yusuf. Or maybe something I've never seen before, like Ariadne/Miles (May/December romance ftw).

a thanks

Everyone hangs out on the internet for different reasons, but I have this theory that most of them boil down to the fact that none of us were hugged enough as children and so we have this great gaping need for attention and affection that we'll spend our whole lives filling -- or perhaps that's just the human condition.

In a round-about way, that sentence was supposed to seque into just me being thankful that so many people have been stopping by to comment on my entries recently. I don't want to be petty, or attention-seeking, and sometimes it feels a little taboo to look behind the curtain at fandom and talk about how it all works, on a platform-paradigm level. And I have honestly and truly been working on being someone who feels validated because of my self-worth and not because of the attention of other people, and I've been doing pretty good at it recently. But... that doesn't in any way diminish the fact that it feels good when you get comments. Validation is pleasurable. Saying something and getting a response is pleasurable.

So thanks, folks, for continually brightening my day with your comments, be they wry or sincere, flailingly enthusastic or reserved, supportive or chiding; be they long or short, on Twitter or LJ or by direct message or email; whether they come by bits or by carrier pigeon. Thank you for reflecting the sound of my own voice so it doesn't fall into the void, and for gifting me the sound of your own. I'm really thankful, I will never stop being thankful, and I really appreciate you.

I am the worst at replying to comments, but I am trying to be better. I am even worse at leaving comments for others, but I am already improving on that one. I don't think I'll ever be as amazing as [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis, who comments on every entry on her friends page, or [livejournal.com profile] cherrybina, who is unfailingly enthusiastic in every reply, but let's consider it to be a fandom goal. :D

So can we believe the crazy amount of kink going on over at Bina's Inception Kinkfest? There are some freaking amazing fills over there, and I am so impressed by the breadth and the quality of writing. A+, fandom, you rock.

My contribution was a little piece of art for [livejournal.com profile] knowmydark's AU where Arthur is a pin-up model and Eames is his starstruck fan. She described a few of Eames' favorite photoshoots, and [livejournal.com profile] keelain and I were her faithful artist monkeys and drew out a few of them. This is mine:

GIMME FOO GIMME FAH GIMME DABIJABIZAH

So I blame [livejournal.com profile] keelain for this, really, because she courted her friendslist with images of floppy-haired bb!Arthur squirming on Eames' lap while trying to study, and also this is [livejournal.com profile] persephone_il's fault too for posting THIS PICTURE (NSFW) shortly afterwards and giving me the inspiration. And you guys, you know I do not go for the bb trope, but I do go for lap-sitting-but-actually-penetration porn, apparently, and it's all come on, yeah, finish studying data-mining that corporation's staff records and I'll fuck you proper. Aww, yeah.

So I drew porn, and despite my big talk, this is the first thing I've drawn where people are legit fucking, omg, so that's kind of cool. Husband looked over my shoulder at the lineart phase, and his only comment was 'this is your first picture with penetration in it'. Fuck yeah, I married the right one.

Anyway, without further ado:

And in case you missed the opening paragraph(s), BEHIND THE CUT, MEN ARE FUCKING.

There is also just a little over a day left to bid on me in the [livejournal.com profile] help_japan auction! My two auctions are currently very reasonably priced, and open to all subject matter. I am doing one full-colour, full-background commission and one original character bust. Japan's always been close to my heart, so please help me raise money to help the relief effort. <3

offensive orange/yellow typography icons

neomeruru: (cocksucker)
So folks have said that they really like my 'cocksucker' icon! And I really like that, because nothing makes me happier than being pleasantly and intractably offensive. I decided to make a few more icons in the same style.

My darling [livejournal.com profile] photoclerk was integral to figuring out the words for most of these, because I'm kind of a dunce when it comes to words and figuring out how to use them. Especially porny words. Thanks bb!

and i'm like, AU~

Because I am easily amused, and because [livejournal.com profile] butterflythread, [livejournal.com profile] matchsticks_p, and [livejournal.com profile] theholysea, are enablers, I have started drawing an Inception/Reboot crossover. It already has a title and everything. Arthur looks like Megaman, Eames looks like Captain Planet, Ariadne looks like Speed Racer... but somewhere along the line, I learned how to draw faces without photo reference, so that's cool. The lineart is taking a surprisingly long time to finish, despite being in the simple Reboot style.

I also made up a little filk to sing to myself while I was working on the pic, to the tune of Cee-Lo Green's 'Fuck You':

So I'm gettin' kinda bored with the 'verse I love, and I'm like: AU (oo oo ooo);
I guess the crazy dream heist wasn't enough, I'm like: AU, guess I'll read you too.
I said, if Arthur's a pirate, I know I'd still buy it,
(Hah! Is that so wrong? (is that so wrong?))
And I love the dapper gent, but Eames could be a vet,
So I'm like, AU (oo ooo ooooo)

I think there are like a billion verses someone could write for this, so go nuts in the comments if you can think of any. There are as many possibilities as catboy!Arthur has lives, yeah.

um, twitter.

At [livejournal.com profile] photoclerk's insistence, I got this... twitter... fucking... thing. So, I am on the twitters, twitting about stuff, about three years after the curve. I feel a little like a grandmother learning how to use Word, okay, what the hell, I am too young to feel this old. [livejournal.com profile] butterflythread has been doing a very good job at easing me into it. I was unsure at first, and it was a little painful, but apparently it gets better? Yeah, that's what I'm told. She says she'll call, but I know she only wanted me for my hashtags.

So I have the twitters, and if you have the twitters too, you can add me, or follow me, or whatever? This is going to be my fandom account, so, if you like that part of me (or are only here for that part of me!), then add away.

Twitter is setting off some latent OCD, man. It's so messy. Everyone is talking over one another and I have this need to KNOW ALL THE THINGS. Which is probably why when I discovered Inception fandom, I needed so much time to keep up with the sheer volume of content that I stopped playing Warcraft. Yeah. That's a big deal.

hitRECordJoe just posted a video of him signing all the cheques going out to the hitRECorders who worked on their SXSW production. That is amazingly cool.

i had an exciting day

 • Feb. 20th, 2011 at 9:45 PM
neomeruru: (praise the lord)
So in exciting news, my oldest sister got engaged today! They've been dating for something like four years now and the family adores him, so really it was just a matter of time.

Husband and I are constantly joking that I am the youngest in my generation by like eight years, and yet the third of six to be married. We jumped quite a few of my older siblings. But now with her engaged, the race is on again to pull ahead in Important Life Milestones. Welp, good thing we already had the family planning conversation! >D

Oh fuck, I will probably be the matron of honour, won't I? Aw, man, I finally recovered from the stress of planning my own wedding.

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] somnacin_addict and [livejournal.com profile] ilovetakahana were the two "lucky" authors to claim my [livejournal.com profile] i_reversebang pieces! Looking forward to working with you, guys. And, other authors, if you wanted to claim my pieces but you didn't get there in time, keep in mind that I will still flail all over you if you happen to, say, write something with the same themes on your own... just saying... I will be there...

And in OTHER other news, the latest issue of [livejournal.com profile] bb_shousetsu is up, and it is the steampunk issue. I don't have anything in this issue because I artfail this month, but I will devour all this original queer fiction all the same.

(Being involved with [livejournal.com profile] bb_shousetsu has kind of been a godsend, even if I've only been in it once; it has given me something to talk about other than embarrassing fanart when people ask me what I draw. Illustrating for an original queer fiction anthology sounds so much classier than drawing fanart for a movie that's been out for seven months.)

hitRECord musings

 • Feb. 18th, 2011 at 10:45 AM
neomeruru: (don't give a shit)
So people have been talking about JGL's cover of Midnight Radio. Now, while I'm a big fan of JGL both aesthetically and professionally, and I love that he's so crazily confident so mad props for anything he does, I've been a little ambivalent about his actual singing voice. Imagine my surprise when, halfway through the song, I realized I'd entirely stopped what I was doing and was just listening, tears streaming down my face. So thanks, Joe, I guess I really needed a cry. There was a lot of stress in there.

And yeah, I swear I was thinking about this BEFORE his voice made me cry actual tears (like a crazy!stan, jesus), do you guys think it would be kosher if I submitted my less Inception-y Inception art to hitRECord?

(background for people who don't eat, sleep, breathe art: hitRECord is JGL's collaborative production company project where artists of all kinds submit their drawings, music, movies, spoken word, whatever, and the community 'remixes' it and creates new things, and when an amazing thing arises from the collaborative soup, he uses his media cred to monetize it.)

I mean, here's the thing. You can't submit fanart because you need to 100% own what you create; hitRECord is completely legit and needs to comply with crazy archaic copyright laws and all. But, my stuff's not so amazing that it would be entirely obvious that it's fanart. Like these (BB illos) and this (Triage) and this (Glitch). With, you know, maybe a hair colour change along the way or something.

I want to work on more original art but, so far, my big Renaissance has been for the most part Inception art. And I want to join hitRECord but I don't really have anything to show for myself yet. And also part of me is like, Lindsay, don't be crazy, no one would want to remix your stuff; anime (which you do not draw, but that's what people see) is totally last year and you don't draw nearly enough birds on branches and twee little sparrows.

(can I mention how conflicted I am at the current wave of popular things? Because I love birds on branches and tree silhouettes and darling little hippie patterns, but they ARE SO VERY TWEE right now I can't even stand it, have you been to an IKEA lately. hipster rant over.)

(also, ffs people, I do not draw anime and I will cut you.)

Okay yeah, as well, I owe you guys a post about electrocution and I will do that later, but now I am at work and need to Do All The Things.
