I made a cross-stitch pattern today, uploaded over at my deviantART. It's a pretty simple typographic design; I was playing around with fonts and layouts today, Photoshop crashed, I recreated it, you know, all in a day's work.

The phrase ('thou shalt not make repetitive, generic art') is my personal motto, adapted from dan le sac VS scroobius pip's "Thou Shalt always Kill", who are actually speaking about music in particular. It helps, because I've been pushing against the limits of my skill recently, trying new perspectives and colouring styles, and if I get discouraged I think, this is how we get better at our craft.

Anyway, I thought I'd upload it in case anyone else is like me and likes cross-stitching, but despairs at the terrible, terrible quaintness of most free and commercially available patterns. I refuse to stitch basket of flowers and kittens with yarn, okay.

This is what I made for my best friend this year. She'll get one, and I'll get the other:

What I learned from this experience is that I absolutely despise beadwork, but that I love beads. The beading section of the craft store turns me into some strange crow monster, collecting all the shinies for my nest. The sheer number of pendants and baubles I own is quite baffling.

Here, have a news story about doing workplace equality right

Also, because [ profile] darthneko shared this with me many many moons ago for Christmas and it's had a home on multiple computers ever since, I pass it on in the Christmas Spirit: Vienna Teng's Atheist Christmas Carol (.mp3, 5MB).

I just submitted my 50th deviation on deviantART!

Woo! Golden anniversary!

(Those are some fake turquoise polymer clay beads I just made. I expected my 50th post to be, you know, art, but what do you know. :D)
