neomeruru: (the end is nigh)

Okay, but seriously, about the first image, the intense coverage (both from mainstream and social media news) should be proof enough that waaaay deep down, deep in our animal brains, there is something immensely satisfying about displays of anarchy. Even more interesting, there's this public performance of shaming the rioters and looters that goes above and beyond the call of citizen's duty. Posting on your Facebook isn't getting the rioters to stop rioting -- they're too busy rioting to read your Facebook. It's the same deal with talking to 'the world' or the 'team' on your Facebook. It's not important that they hear you, but that your cohorts do, and in this way the ideas that keep society civil are perpetuated.

I am absolutely fascinated by what's going on in downtown Vancouver right now. I can't stop at 'I don't understand the rioters', I want to know. I want to know what purpose they and the civil backlash have.

okay okay, more edits/thoughts before I go to bed: sports is just ritualized violence, war games toned down so less people die while we work out all this primal bloodlust. I'm not surprised at all that Big Sports Emotions are transmuted to Big Violence Emotions any more than I'm surprised love songs lead to sex.

(edited, because I'm a dick at 1AM after hockey upsets and five hours of sleep)

Drawn for [ profile] i_reversebang, this is my second entry: Arthur and Eames in a hockey AU.

This challenge was taken up by [ profile] somnacin_addict, who wrote Light the Lamp, and [ profile] queenofinfinite, who wrote All the Right Moves. I haven't had a chance to read the stories yet, but judging from how hard they worked, I am so excited.

My only request to my authors was that there be plenty of sweaty locker room sex, in those words exactly, so I am bracing for an explosion of sheer awesomeness. OMG. Yay.

all sport is simply a legitimized expression of our natural human bloodthirst )

So Husband and I bought our first hockey jerseys! It is very exciting. I would still give up a finger for playoff tickets, but they already took two for the jerseys, so maybe I should stop before they start going after the important ones!

I have been wearing my jersey with all faithfulness on game days (#1 on the roster and in my heart, Luongo), but I've noticed something distressing: wearing my jersey means that men shout at me on the street.

This is a new occurrence for me! I am not really the kind of woman who gets shouted at on the street, generally; always in jeans, short messy hair, dismissive look.. yeah. Not really the wolf-whistling kind. So this is new. And I hate it, oh my god.

I mean, there's the cheers and smiles from fellow fans, and that's cool. Am I waiting in line at the bank? Maybe more likely to talk to strangers. But on the street, no. I am walking somewhere, and frankly I have enough to worry about with just the act of walking itself, I really don't want to add listening to people to that burden.

And if I have my headphones on and I see someone flapping their lips at me, especially with a negative look on their face, fuck, that's not cool either. Neither is the creepy guy in the alleyway who awkwardly stopped me to talk shit about my team. What the fuck, man, why are you stopping me as I pass an alleyway to talk smack?

I have a really sensitive Predator Alarm, okay. Maybe it's a little too sensitive, but I have been hurt by men, and that's my choice and my right to make it as sensitive as I damn well please. And, okay, you, creepy man, stopping me as I am walking, glaring at me with hatred, that is ringing it.

Ugh. Ugh, ugh, ugh. It's enough to make me stop wearing my jersey. It makes me feel dirty. Why do you have to make me stop enjoying hockey too, rape culture. So uncool.

game day game day

Hey, Rebecca Black fans: I just can't get enough parodies, man. This one might be one of my favorites:

Why is it one of my favorites? One, hockey. Two, man those are some cute boys. Three, they're on the Skytrain, and the Skytrain is my BFF. Four, at 3:36 they are actually at my high school!

So, if absolutely anyone cares about hockey (WOOO HOCKEY!), the Canucks just cinched the President's Trophy for having the most points in the league. That's the first time ever for us, so that's really exciting! I cannot wait for playoffs this year; we are going to actually buy jerseys, and I am going to wear my boy Luongo, and it will be good.

I made a silly thing for [ profile] butterflythread because she was having a gross day, and her fic always cheers me up without fail, so it was the least I could do. Figure I'll share it too, because it's kind of cute and it's also funny how I revert back to my first drawing style when I'm just sketching something:

Ariadne and Yusuf, the SOLIDARITY SHOUJO edition )

And now I want to draw them as sailor scouts, what the hell!! :D

So yeah, guys, that was how I used to draw when I was, like, fifteen. If you were wondering! I still want to go back and redraw some of my old stuff like Husband suggested, but I honestly haven't had a chance to sit down and draw seriously this week. I've been trying to go to bed at a decent time, which means NOT engaging art thrusters.

Also, I've been playing Fallout: New Vegas in eager anticipation of [ profile] loobeeinthesky's Reverse Bang(s). Man, I love me some post-apoc. And corporate espionage. Inception/Fallout crossovers rock both of my favorite tropes, guys.

Also, I have been faithfully watching hockey games... you know, for research, for my collabs with [ profile] somnacin_addict and [ profile] queenofinfinite, including last night's freaking awesome Canucks v. Blues game. The HIGHLIGHT of the night was my boy Glass getting his fight on like two minutes into the game (ATTA BOY!). That was a good fight, too -- right at a faceoff, too, so you know there were some Words exchanged. Jesus, do they ever have some vicious hooks there.

ETA: And in case anyone missed it, my mystery [ profile] eames_arthur swap partner posted my gift today, and it is glorious. Pun intended. Because it's about glory holes. And there's safe sex! BRB, hearts forever.

Why Luongo will always be the captain of my heart: the O-face edition.

I would lick that from back to belly. Just so you know.

And yes, I did watch that clip an obscene amount of times. Husband was very patient with me.

in which i talk about hockey, not really

Art bitch: there are, predictably enough, no ice-level photographs of hockey fights. This is making perspective quite difficult for me, and by difficult I mean FUCK IT, MAKE IT LOOK LIKE A FISHEYE LENS AND CALL IT A DAY.

I quite like it though; I have literally never seen a hockey fight from this angle, so I guess it's like a wish-fulfillment thing? I can't wait to show it off, but alas this is another one of those Top Secret Projects that I can't share until some point in the future. And by cannot share, I mean [ profile] photoclerk and [ profile] matchsticks_p get stuck with the onerous, thankless, and never-ending task of stroking my ego in private. Come February I am going to have a ridic amount of art to upload to dA, though.

I may have (sub)consciously made this hockey fight Canucks vs. some amalgram of the Flames and the Blackhawks. I know, I know, my bias is showing. It WAS the Kings vs. the Flames, but all-purple jerseys basically look like pajamas. Sorry, Eames.

ETA: I painted [ profile] matchsticks_p's nails the other day! She has such beautiful hands.

i can't control you, i don't know you well

HOCKEY AU is happening whether you want it or not, but apparently there are a lot of Canadians in the audience tonight because everyone I mention it to basically gets this HELLS YES expression on their face. How can I resist?

With thanks to [ profile] photoclerk, who is my new bff and sounding board and who basically commanded me to draw all the things. She is a cruel taskmistress. <3

And mood music selected by [ profile] almostgaby for [ profile] knowmydark's chilling and intricate Moment of Inertia. Which, I mean, incongruous, because hockey!AU is about as far from Arthur hunting down and killing the Inception team as you can get.
